Last year marked an important chapter for One Inch Whale, and we chose to honour it in a way that felt true to our name. Not with a louder story about ourselves, but with a commitment that reaches far beyond our own walls. We became the patron of a whale. His name is Keiko, chosen through a public poll with our community, because if impact is something you build together, you name your whale together.
One year on, that decision still feels right.
WHY GO BIG?
Whales operate on a different scale. They dive deeper than most of us ever will and travel distances that make quarterly plans look small. By simply moving through the ocean, they circulate nutrients from the depths back to the surface, strengthening entire ecosystems along the way. Quietly. Systemically. Without fanfare.
That principle sits at the heart of our work. At One Inch Whale, we believe businesses should strengthen the systems they depend on. Not extract and move on, but contribute and regenerate. Sustainability is not a layer we add when convenient. It is a way of thinking that shapes the foundations.
If we ask our clients to take responsibility for their impact, we must hold ourselves to the same standard.
GOING FOR THE LONG SWIM
Before Keiko, we adopted a whale for every project we completed. A meaningful ritual that linked our name to ocean protection. When we reached that milestone year, we chose to anchor that ritual in a more enduring way. Less about individual moments, more about sustained responsibility, the same shift we encourage our clients to make in their own strategies. Supporting one whale over the long term became our way of making that commitment structural.
If we ask our clients to take responsibility for their impact, we must hold ourselves to the same standard. Patronship is part of that responsibility. A tangible contribution, not just a narrative.
Keiko sets the bar for how we grow. With depth, not just in size.
SCALING IMPACT
Over the years, our team has grown. Our client base has expanded. The number and scope of projects have increased. With that growth comes greater reach, broader influence and an even stronger responsibility to stay true to what we stand for.
Keiko sets the bar for how we grow. With depth, not just in size. Balancing ambition with care. Ensuring that as our impact widens, it also strengthens the systems around us.
World Whale Day may sit on a single date in February, but our commitment is not bound to the calendar. We are here for the long swim, building work that contributes, restores and lasts.
